The Amazing Castle™ exhibit has come to the Avon Free Public Library! The possibilities for imagination are endless from princes and princesses to knights and dragons! What’s not to love about medieval times? Let your children’s imaginations run wild as they come visit the castle, and then enjoy these charming fantasy books.

Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin
This delightful story shows how to make friends with a dragon. It’s very simple — just give them tacos. They also love taco parties! But don’t give them spicy salsa, they don’t like spicy things. Enjoy this sweet story and then make some tacos after, if you feel like it.

Princess Super Kitty by Antoinette Portis
Perfect for the prince or princess in your life, this fun picture book follows a young girl who wants to be a princess. She also wants to be many other things, including a kitty and a superhero. She believes that she can be whatever she wants to be.

The Prince Won’t Go to Bed by Dayle Anne Dodds
This charming tale is about a prince whose parents go out and ask his governess to look after him. The prince tries and tries, but he will not go to bed. They call on everyone in the castle to try to make the prince sleepy, but nobody can make him fall asleep. Finally, the princess wakes up to help her brother. All the prince needed was a goodnight kiss, and he fell fast asleep.

The Dragon and the Knight by Tomie dePaola
This classic follows a Dragon and a Knight that each try to defeat the other. They study hard and practice, and are finally ready to face off. They battle so much that they become tired and decide to work together instead. They make their own “Bar-B-Q” and live happily ever after. Iconic illustrations by dePaola are featured throughout the story.

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch
This tale is about a princess who goes off to rescue her prince that was taken by a dragon. She manages to outsmart the dragon and save the prince, but does not end up being happy with him at the end. An empowering story for both girls and boys alike.

Cross-Sections Castles by Stephen Biesty
This interesting read contains bright and colorful illustrations containing all the components of a castle, from structure to protection methods. This book gives insight into the daily lives of the lords and ladies that lived in castles and what they wore and ate.

The Tiny King by Taro Miura
This story is about a very small king who starts to feel lonely. He begins to lose sleep over how lonely he is. One day he meets a very big princess and falls in love. Soon they get married and have lots of children and they are very happy. The children play inside the large castle and ride his large horse. The king can finally sleep peacefully at last.

Mr. King’s Castle by Genevieve Cote
A king wants to build his own castle on top of a hill. All his friends hear the noise and come to see what he is up to. He kept cutting blocks and his castle gets bigger and bigger. He looked out to admire his view and saw that there was no hill left. All of his friends became sad and the king realized he made a mistake. He and his friends put everything back. His friends tell him to close his eyes, and they build him a small castle. This charming story of friendship is sure to please every reader.

Events at the Avon Free Public Library

The Avon Library Children’s Department is pleased to announce the arrival of The Amazing Castle ~ a magical place where visitors can become inhabitants of a castle village! Avon families and children can learn community values while playing in this traveling exhibit created by the Minnesota Children’s Museum. They can build with “stone” blocks, create meals, don costumes, play with puppets and work in castle workshops. The interactive play exhibit will be open through May, 2018 on the floor of the Children’s Library.

Visit us on Art Day, Saturday, May 5 from 1-4:30 p.m. for art experiences for all.
