Graduate Studies Spotlight

Sacred Heart University’s Isabelle Farrington College of Education is located at the state-of-the-art 50,000 square-foot Cambridge building in Trumbull, CT, and comprises field-based teacher and administrator preparation programs.

Long recognized as a leader in education, today the NCATE-accredited Farrington College of Education addresses many critical needs in our nation’s schools. The engaged and knowledgeable faculty members help educators across the state hone their skills teaching mathematics, science, language arts and social studies to a remarkably diverse student population.

Sacred Heart University is the top independent educator of teachers and administrators in Connecticut and annually recommends about 300 students for teaching certifications. SHU candidates also have the highest pass rate for the state’s required reading literacy test.

The College of Education offers two teacher certifications through their elementary school program, which prepares teachers in grades K-6, and the secondary school program prepares teachers in academic subjects in grades 7-12.

One of the college’s most popular and unique programs is the graduate teacher internship program. The internship program is ideal for students who are completing their initial teacher certification after earning their bachelor’s degree. This program attracts college graduates from the tri-state area and is for students directly out of college or for those changing careers. Candidates are able to complete their teacher certification and master’s degree requirements in evening classes while spending the day as a supervised intern in a local public school. Students can earn both a Connecticut teacher certification and a master’s degree in teaching in less than two years with graduate tuition partially paid by the school system sponsoring the internship.

The Farrington College of Education offers many additional educational programs including advanced programs in educational administration and literacy. To learn more, please visit their website at to find the option that’s perfect for you.
