Debate Camp at at Greenwich Academy, Greenwich
levels and programs are challenge-leveled — with instruction available for novice to competitive speakers. Campers work in small groups to develop their ideas, and speak in partnership as part of 2- and 4-person teams representing their side of the debate resolution (parliamentary style). Campers learn to develop their ideas with a view to logic, evidence, impact and overall persuasiveness. Young speakers at all levels are generally amazed at their growth and development over 1 week. All instruction and supervision ratios are set at 1:8. Training teams are led by certified and highly experienced Middle and High School Teachers who, alongside some of the best high-school and university-level debaters in the country, provide coveted training and life-long inspiration for young people. Our daily schedule also includes organized games, impromptu speaking, drama and interactive activities to ensure camp retains a fun and balanced approach to learning. Model United Nations simulations and mini-tournaments complete the week. The feedback we encounter is often on the theme of genuine surprise at just how enjoyable an academic enrichment and skills-development program can be.
